Spin the Globe World Music

Spin the Globe Playlist for 15 October 2004 - Afrobeat for Fela's Birthday
* = Specific listener request/response

Show Notes:
Today would have been Fela Kuti's 66th birthday, so we celebrated by listening to an hour of Afrobeat, American style. We heard bands from Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, and of course New York City, finishing it off with a cut from the Black President himself. It's great that this musical tradition is finding voice in so many places...though I'm still waiting for a Seattle/Northwest afrobeat band to emerge. Anyone?

Hour 2 featured new releases - lots of them - plus previews of coming live shows.
