Carnival/Mardi Gras + interview with Affro-Muzika

Show Notes:
This week's show featured Carnival music and a drop-in appearance by members of Affro-Muzika, on their way from Sacramento to Seattle. Tomorrow they return to Olympia for a benefit show for Olympia's Procession of the Species. Affro-Muzika members Shimita El Diego, Nene Tchakou, Kibisi Douglas, and Jeffura talked about their experience with the band, and their upcoming CD "Ceasefire." Look for it this summer. The show ended with STG favorite Moana Maniapoto's 2003 International Songwriting Competition Grand Prize-winning song "Moko" describing the traditional, sacred body decoration of New Zealand's Maoris. # Our cover song of the week was, well, several songs. Carnival/Mardi Gras songs tend to be covers as much as originals, and we heard several of those. But I'll proclaim one particular song as this week's official cover song: MacUmba's delightful version of Robert Burns' "A Man's A Man." The plaintive, uplifting melody is carried by the piper (appropriate enough for a warmup to Jim Malcom's solo show this evening in Olympia [see calendar]) accompanied by Brazilian drumming.
