Show Notes: The
islands of the world have produced some of the most engaging and influential
music in the world - just think of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Jamaica,
Hawaii. Each of those brings to mind distinct sounds, doesn't it? Today on
Spin the Globe we musically explored these and other islands. We talked with
Sean Whittaker, producer of the Malagasy group/project Vakoka. And we had
a little trivia contest for the prize of a CD from Salsa Celtica. For
record, the answers are:
largest islands in the world are Greenland, New Guinea, Borneo,
Madagascar, and Baffin.
tallest islands in the world are New Guinea (Mt. Carstensz
- 16,503 ft), Hawaii (Mauna Kea - 13,796 ft), Borneo (Mt.
Kinabalu - 13,431 ft), Taiwan (Yu Shan, 13,113 ft), and Sumatra
