Spin the Globe World Music

Spin the Globe Playlist for 1 April 2005
World Brass Bands+ live music by Hejira

* = Specific listener request/response

Show Notes: Spin the Globe indulged its fondness for brass bands this week, playing brassy music from India, Germany, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and beyond. As if that wasn't exciting enough, we also had live music from Seattle-based Hejira - a taste of their upcoming shows in Olympia and around the region. Check their website hejiramusic.com for dates and mp3 downloads. We also snuck in a few requests at the end of the show, one left over from last week.

Finally, I apologize for any unnecessary angst caused by my little April Fool's Day prank. I read a press release allegedly from the US Department of Homeland Security promoting a plan (The Homeland-Overseas Music Enterprise or HOME) to curtail music imports and eliminate "world music" sections at major record stores. It was apparently so believable (considering the government's crackdown on visas for dangerous world music musicians) that many listeners were alarmed. One even called Homeland Security in DC to check on the report! Still, it was kinda fun... Read the bogus press release.

Most of the music played on Spin the Globe is available at cdRoots.com or CD Universe or the calabash.
